Sajeda Begum became successful to reduce poverty through chicken rearing in Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar district. 1,256 family became self-reliant by chicken rearing with the training and input support from an NGO named Mukti Coax’s Bazar. Sajeda Begum Wife of late Nur Ahmed of Bottoli village of Rajapalong union under Ukhiya Upazila informed that she along with 5 children were in big problem after death of her husband. Sajeda Begum is now self-reliant by chicken rearing with the training and input support from an NGO named Mukti Coax’s Bazar. Currently she have 50 chicken. She started rice and vegetable production with the money earned from chicken rearing. Her children are continuing their study as their family became well-off.
Jaria Khatun wife of Late Abdul Halim from same community informed that she also became self-reliant by rear indigenous chicken. Not only had them, Rokeya Begum, Sabekunnahar with many others informed that they became self-reliant by chicken rearing with the training and input support from an NGO named Mukti Coax’s Bazar. Their children got facility of study. They also informed that they purchased necessary household stuffs and goat with the earnings from chicken rearing. Even they taken lease of land for rice and vegetable cultivation.
Mr. Osman Gani, Project Coordinator of Mukti Cox’s Bazae informed that this activities are implementing in the host community of Ukhiya Upazila under IPCoSO Project which is funded by UNHCH. Till date a total of 1,256 family of Rajapalong and Palongkhali Union received support for rear indigenous chicken. Each of the family received 16 hen, 4 cock, feeding pot, double chambered chicken house and 20 kg feed. The villagers informed that this types of program of Mukti Cox’s Bazar contributes a lot to become well-off.
Project Officer Liza Arfin informed that, this project providing different support since 2019 to achieve self-reliance of the poor family of this area. This project also help the chicken rearer to build linkage with different market actors.
